Henrico Fire Station #8

This one story, 8,000 SF fire station replaced an existing station built in the 1950s on the same site at a prominent intersection in Henrico County, VA. The site had to operate as a full-service station during the entirety of the construction, so a temporary equipment shelter, with foundation, was built at the rear of the work site.

The building provides 2 apparatus bays with access in the front and back, multiple bunk rooms, shared work spaces, offices, fitness area and a gourmet kitchen that opens into a dining/day room with outdoor patio area.

The cold formed roof trusses are supported on load bearing masonry in the equipment bay and on load bearing metal studs in the other areas. Brick salvaged from the original structure was re-used to form a large number 8 in the brickwork on the rear exterior wall of the facility.
