Goode Theater, Performing Arts Building / Diehn II Fine Arts Building, Phase 2, Old Dominion University

And the curtain rises… Old Dominion University’s 25,000 SF two-story academic theater building houses a 150 seat studio theater, a rehearsal room, shop space, dressing rooms, a wardrobe room and staff offices. Critically, the flexible performance space can be configured as a standard proscenium theater, thrust stage, or arena seating. The fine arts building is an 18,000 SF one-story addition that contains a state-of-the-art recording studio and rehearsal and classroom facilities.

The structure includes loadbearing tilt-up concrete exterior walls with interior load bearing masonry and structural steel framing. The building is load bearing masonry with a steel framed roof. As an eco-friendly touch, the addition is encircled by a brick planter wall and bioswale that collects and treats rainwater channeled from the roof. The building received LEED Gold certification.
