CarolinaEast Cancer Center

This comprehensive cancer center for CarolinaEast Medical Center was built in collaboration with UNC Healthcare in New Bern, NC. The 80,000 SF building was designed to efficiently connect four discrete, existing hospital structures built in different years and with different elevations. The dynamic building is home to radiation oncology, medical oncology, nutrition services, social worker and psychological support services, palliative care coordination, and other services for the residents of eastern North Carolina for the first time.

Consisting of a new three-story 51,000 SF hospital addition and 29,000 SF renovation to the existing hospital the new Cancer Center features a complex cantilevered monumental stair in the entrance atrium.

Using structural steel, LM designed the third floor to accommodate future vertical expansion across the entire floor plate. The connecting building between the two existing buildings was designed for two additional stories to be constructed in the future.
