Aviate. Navigate. Communicate. Pilots and passengers alike are loving the new Blue Line Aviation facility in Smithfield, NC. Anchored by a three-story, 40,531 SF conventional structural steel framed building with offices, classrooms and a restaurant the facility also includes two adjacent pre-engineered metal building airplane hangars separated by a freestanding CMU firewall.
The main building houses a flight school with supporting flight operations and an in-house flight simulator. There’s also space for Blue Live corporate offices and a restaurant on the 3rd floor. Exterior roof terraces at the second and third floor levels allow students and visitors to observe airport operations with a birds eye view. The striking atrium features a three-story segmented glass curtainwall system. Architectural nods to aviation abound including a cantilevered sloped roof which mimics an aircraft wing and two external, 3-story latticed columns that resemble bi-plane wing struts. You’re clear for take off!
