The Finance Building in Richmond, VA was originally completed around 1896 and housed the Supreme Court and the State Library. An addition was added between 1908 and 1910 for expansion of the Library. Marrying a 4-story historical renovation with modern needs, we designed this renovation to preserve the existing structure for another 100 years!
This comprehensive renovation and restoration consisted of masonry parapet reconstruction and repair of deteriorated masonry. Interior renovation included new vertical stairwells, two new elevator shafts, underpinning of existing bearing walls, floor openings for mechanical shafts and upgrade of structure as required for increased loading. And, of course, partial building demolition, complete roof replacement, and building addition.
This project was done through a PPEA (Public-Private Education and Infrastructure Act of 2002) and now houses the Lieutenant Governor’s office, Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and Compensation Board (as any building with the word Finance in the name should!).
