Recreation Center, Old Dominion University

College Recreation Centers aren’t what they used to be! Juice bar? Check. Rock climbing wall? Check.

Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA created a state-of-the-art Rec Center in the heart of campus to serve as the hub of all sport, wellness, and fitness activities at ODU. This project included a 121,000 SF addition and renovation of the 31,000 SF existing Natatorium which remained from the Health & PE Building.

Construction consisted of masonry veneer, steel stud backup with a steel superstructure.

The new recreation center contains a 2 story climbing wall, a weight training fitness space with upper level cardio balcony, a juice bar with lounge, a 3 court gymnasium, aerobics/dance studios, a spinning studio, and racquetball courts. A unique feature at the Rec Center is the rubberized multi-activity court gym, which can accommodate games of soccer, floor hockey, team handball and basketball.
