Located in the heart of biotechnology, life science and IT innovation, Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC is the Lilly Science and Technology Center on Wake Tech’s RTP campus in Morrisville. This 3-story, 66,000 SF education hub includes 23 smart classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, an aseptic clean room, and collaboration spaces.
The building consists of structural steel composite floor structure and steel bar joist framing at the roof level supported by structural steel wide flange beams and columns. The second and third floors cantilever at the east and west sides creating an overhang for pedestrian traffic between the existing building and the new classroom building. Cast-in-place concrete site walls are used on one side of the building to accommodate the existing grade.
It serves students in Wake Tech’s new Biotechnology Associate in Applied Science degree, as well as those in the fast-track, non-degree BioWork certificate program. It’s also the new home of Wake Tech’s Business Analytics degree program, which draws students, many with advanced degrees, for specialized coursework in analytic theory, data mining and predictive modeling–the first program of its type at a community college in the U.S.
