Hendrick Automotive, Wake Technical Community College

Go go go! Wake Tech is North Carolina’s largest community college, with locations around Wake County and the Triangle area. The Northern Wake campus was selected to house the brand new, state-of-the-art 107,000 SF Automotive and Collision Building, housing the Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence. This high-demand program serves as an employment pipeline for skilled workers capable of servicing the latest vehicle technologies including hybrid and all-electric.

The next generation of auto technicians can take classes like diagnostics and repair of electrical/electronic systems, emissions, brakes, engine performance, steering, suspension, transmission, climate control, diesel fuel systems, alternative fuel systems, collision repair and general education classes.

LM provided complete structural design and construction documents for this two story building. The building consists of a structural steel composite floor structure and steel bar joist framing for the roof supported by steel wide flange columns. The lab and collision wings are framed with structural steel and the high bay framing is steel joist.

The project also won a 2022 Sir Walter Raleigh Award from the City of Raleigh Appearance Commission citing the facility “raised the bar” on the design and construction of educational facilities.
