If it’s unique and different – count on LM to be there! The Southeast Raleigh YMCA and Elementary School is the first of its kind in the state. Uniquely serving the needs of the surrounding community, it’s half-school, half-YMCA–all under one roof! The project’s innovative concept and design were entirely driven by the local community’s response to the needs of the underserved Rock Quarry Road Corridor neighborhood. The 105,000 SF YMCA/Elementary School is the first project to be completed at the 32-acre YMCA Beacon Site, which now includes 120 affordable housing units.
The building is a structural steel frame with composite steel beam and concrete slab second floor and a bar joist and metal deck roof and features a two-story cast-in-place concrete cantilevered firewall. It was constructed on undocumented fill soils up to 15 in depth. As a result, rammed aggregate piers were used to support the building’s foundations. The project also included an outdoor pool and glulam wood framed pool house building.
